Byron Soccer is looking for a new Club Administrator!

We are currently looking to hire a Club Administrator on a casual hourly basis to assist with the operation of the Club throughout the outdoor and indoor season.  The hours and duties will vary depending on the time of the season.

2010 Registration for HOUSE LEAGUE isCLOSED.

JUNIOR HOUSE LEAGUE SCHEDULE FOR 2010 (To be confirmed)

Under 5 Co-ed - Saturdays @ 8:30 am to 9:30 am
Under 6 Co-ed - Saturdays @ 9:30 am to 11:00 am
Under 8 Girls   - Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Under 8 Boys   - Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Under 10 Girls   - Mondays and Wednesdays @ 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Under 10 Boys   - Mondays and Wednesdays @ 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Under 5 Co-ed and Under 6 Co-ed will be playing at the Byron Optimists Sports Complex on Boler Road.

Under 8 and Under 10 age groups will be playing on Springbank fields and Jorgenson Park (off Norman Ave).

SENIOR HOUSE LEAGUE SCHEDULE FOR 2010 (To be confirmed on April 15, 2010)

Please go to the West London Soccer League website at www.westlondonsoccer.com for playing nights.  The game schedule will not be confirmed
until April 15, 2010.

The practice schedule will be posted this weekend for Senior House League.

WAIT LISTS

Wait lists are now closed.  Some age groups may be reopened this weekend so please check back here on Saturday April 10, 2010.

All requests to be put on the wait list received before April 4, 2010, will be honoured. 

If you have been contacted that there is a spot available, and you did not register, you will have another opportunity on Friday, April 9, 2010.  If you do not register by the end of the day on April 9, 2010, your child's spot will be made available to others starting April 10, 2010....no exceptions!

First Aid for Soccer Training

Byron Optimist Soccer is pleased to offer ‘First Aid for Soccer’ training through  RJR Training Services.  The course was written with the approval of the Ontario Soccer Association. It is becoming the expectation that at least one staff on the bench have this First Aid training. 

The course is a one-day course and covers not only first aid but also the special skills needed to recognize the hazards of soccer and the potential injuries. In particular we cover the subject of head and spinal injury in great detail as well as many other subjects related to the sport of soccer. The course is certificated by the Canadian Red Cross as an ‘Emergency First Aid Course’, which includes Defibrillation training which is valid for three years with a recommendation of annual CPR Update.

Date:  Saturday April 3, 2010
Time:  8:00 am - 5:30 pm
Cost:  $50.00  non-refundable fee (it is a $100 course, but the BOSC is subsidizing the additional $50.00)

End of Season Tournament for U6 to U10
Saturday, August 8, 2009
 
Under 6 play at 8:30 and 10:30
Under 8 Boys play at 9:30 and 11:30
Under 8 Girls play at 12:30 and 2:30
Under 10 Boys play at 1:30 and 3:30
Under 10 Girls play at 1:30 and 3:30

If weather becomes an issue, please check your email and/or call 519-474-7566 for a message to check on the status of the tournament.


TRYOUTS FOR SELECT UNDER 8 BOYS AND SELECT UNDER 8 GIRLS
 
These SELECT teams will represent Byron and may form the foundation for our Under-9 Competitive teams in 2010.

You must be registered with Byron Houseleague in order to attend these tryouts.  
 
The selected teams will be participating in a mini tournament currently booked for Saturday, August 22, 2009.  They will be playing in a round robin tournament with other clubs from the area. 
 
Please note that this tournament will be competitive in nature, with focus on skill and score.  It will still be on the mini field, with a maximum of 14 players selected for a Boys team and a Girls team.  It will be a fun introduction to competitive play for those players who want to try-out for our Competitive Under 9 teams next season. 
 
There is no cost to try-out, but the cost of the tournament will be $20 per player for those who make the team (to cover team tee shirt and cost for the tournament).

NEW CLUB HEAD COACH/Technical Trainer-2009- Linda Whitehead:


Linda was raised inLondon ON and is a graduate of Westminster SS, was granted a BA from UWO, a M Ed from U of Victoria and MBA from U of Liverpool, UK.

Linda has over 25 years coaching experience that includes time spent as an Ontario Provincial Coach and Tennessee State Coach, Canadian National Team Coach (FISU games and CONCACAF Championship), 6 years coaching in the CIS (University of Western Ontario, University of Victoria & Saint Mary’s University) and over 10 years as a Head Coach in the USA NCAA DI at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and University of Northern Iowa. 

She holds a CSA National ‘B’ License, is NCCP Level IV certified and holds a Coaching Diploma from the National Coaching Institute, University of Victoria.  As an athlete, Linda started her soccer playing career as a member of Byron Optimist Soccer Club.

She went on to be Captain and MVP of the first ever UWO Women's Varsity soccer team, a member of the Ontario Provincial Team and a member of London Concorde Women's Soccer Club; 4 times Ontario Cup winners and Eastern Canadian Champions. Currently Linda is a Community Coaching Course Instructor for the OSA and a part time Professor at Fanshawe College.

Linda will be assisting competitive coaches and house-league coaches enhance their skills and in turn, help players on the field to maximize their potential as soccer players within the Byron Program.

Your BOSC registration fees could be eligible for the new Ontario Children's Fitness Tax Credit. For more information on the credit visit:  Parks and Recreation Ontario

The Byron Optimist Soccer Club program, does are not provide receipts for income tax purposes.  You may use one of the following for your 2008 Income Tax Return:

  1. Your electronic receipt provided by Quickenrollment when you registered your child
  2. A copy of your credit card statement when you registered
  3. A copy of your cancelled cheque
  4. A copy of the receipt issued if you paid by cash

Byron Optimist Soccer wins City of London Award:
Congratulations to our Executive;
On March 6th Bill Wilkinson and Nancy Russell from Byron Soccer accepted the award for the executive. Byron Soccer was recognized as the recipient of the Featured Community Organization Program for its achievement in the London Community. Mayor DeCicco presented to award.

Supporting kids in our community and around the world
For the 3rd year in a row...Thanks to the help of those in the Byron Community, we've raised over 1,000 soccer shirts, 600 soccer balls, and 200+ pairs of soccer shoes again in 2006 to send to kids in Zambia. Special thanks to Diane Padoin, The London Free Press, Bernies (at Baseline Rd), Byron Pizza, Source for Sports-Teamworks, Missing Link and the Byron Soccer Executive.
